Peace Corps Application Timeline

May 9: E-mail the "E-mail Your Recruiter" and ask about loan deferments

May 13: Get a reply from the office in Atlanta expressing that, "Each loan agency has different policies for loan deferment and different documents that must be completed. You will need to contact your particular loan agencies to find out the exact documents you must fill out."

May (general): Search through the Masters International research and grad school programs.

June:
June 7th: Started Peace Corps application

June 19: Recommendation forms submitted

June 24: Submitted Application and health form

July:

July 12th: Fix my e-mail to find that my recruiter, e-mailed me almost a week ago explaining all the files that I need to mail to him by July 15th before 5 pm. Also find out that my current employer recommendation form didn't go through properly.

July 15th: Get my official transcripts sent to the Recruiter Office, E-mail recruiter submitting my Reference Label Sheet, Financial Notarized Letter, Financial Obligations essay, all skill addedums, unofficial trascript for now and my most recent updated resume.

July 15 pt 2: Received new finger print cards & agency check form in mail

July 18th: Get fingerprinting done at school and overnight fingerprint forms and agency check form to recruiter

July 19th: toolkit has been updated saying my materials have been received

July 20th: recruiter calls me TO SCHEDULE MY INTERVIEW FOR NEXT TUESDAY!!

July 26th: Interview. TWO HOURS!

August:
Add Spanish I onto my course load to make me a more competetive candidate for a Peace Corps program, thou they didn't request it

September:

Sept 12th: e-mail recruiter asking how everything is going

Sept 13th: Recruiter replies saying I'll know by latest Sept 21st.

Sept 16th: GET A CALL FROM MY RECRUITER SAYING I AM NOMINATED FOR HEALTH EXTENSION IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA!!!!!!

January 24: Receive an "application status update" e-mail letting me know that my application has gone inactive since I have yet to turn in my medical/dental forms

February 10th: Receive an e-mail saying they've received my medical records and will let me know if they need anything else

February 13th: Go to a dentist where they tell me I have over $2500 in work need to be done in order for them to let me clear for the Peace Corps

February 23rd: Receive an e-mail letting me know my application has been updated on toolkit, and it reads, "Your file is currently under consideration. Please review the information on this page to determine whether Peace Corps is awaiting any information from you."

February 27th: Receive mail that I am missing a few things in my medical application.

March 2nd: It's my birthday, but I'm running around getting a dermatologist that I paid $75 for an appointment for, to touch my hair for a second letting me know I do not have any signs of psoriasis. 4:00 pm Friday, fax over my medical files!!


March 10th: Receive an e-mail saying my application has been updated!! WHERE I SEE A BEAUTIFUL CHECK NEXT TO MEDICAL CLEARANCE!!


March 14th: Receive mail officially stating my medical clearance. I almost cried.

March 16th: Send an e-mail mail letting them know about my internship in Ghana over the summer so it may be difficult to contact me after a certain time; replied with "flexibility is not only appreciated, but is also a great indicator of future success in the field as a Peace Corps Volunteer" :) I'm just happy people e-mail me back.


April 16th: Receive an e-mail asking for my updated resume, experience log and college transcripts (stating that I've graduated)


April 29th: Walk the stage for commencement at my university!!!!


May 6th: Receive official dental clearance. What a relief, $2500 later

May 19th: submit my final updated resume and experience sheet (I wanted to wait until I was well into my internship so I knew a little more about it and my summary was correct on my resume).



May 26th Receive an email stating: I’m writing you from the Peace Corps Placement and Assessment Office where I have recently completed the preliminary review of your file.  

Now that your application has reached the Placement Office, we will address your skills and suitability as a possible volunteer along with the other applicants nominated to your program.  Congratulations on passing all of your clearances, it’s a big step!   

I would like to take a moment to remind you that your nomination is, and always has been subject to change.  However, your flexibility is not only appreciated, but is also a great indicator of future success in the field as a Peace Corps Volunteer.  

At this time I would like to request additional information from you.   This information is listed below along with instructions for how to complete it. After you return this information, your file will be passed along to your Placement Officer who will conduct a final review and consider you for an invitation.  I have received copies of your updated resume and volunteer activity sheet. " then she asked for my updated transcripts stating I've graduated from my University.



June 18th: receive email from placement officer requesting to schedule an interview!!! Scheduled for Wednesday at 6PM my time in Ghana!!

June 20th: receive placement interview call in Ghana going over the very typical questions every other blog talks about- family, safety, experience etc THEN after a legal check over my ticket...I received an email stating!!!! I am clearing you for Peace Corps service and issuing you an invitation to serve in a Peace Corps health assignment departing for the Pacific Islands in September.

July 9th: receive invitation!! Fiji leaving September 4th!!
